Info Systems Execs Head Symposium
Robert C. Hughes, left, of Digital and Dennis Yablonsky of Cincom Systems discuss computer technology usage.
A spring symposium on the future of information systems celebrated the private-public partnership in higher education which has put the College at the leading edge of business computer technology.
Panelists came from the three computer technology firms - Digital, Xerox and Cincom Systems - that have helped establish CBA computer laboratories and software capacity.
Speakers included Robert C. Hughes, vice president, industry marketing, Digital Equipment Corp.; Dennis Yablonsky, president and chief operating officer of Cincom Systems, Inc. of Cincinnati; Bruce V. Gitlin, vice president of market planning and support, document processing unit, Xerox headquarters, Sunnyvale, Calif.; and Dr. James Perotti, associate professor of computer systems in business, College of Business Administration, Ohio University. Dr. John Day, CBA computer systems in business professor, was moderator for the panel.
Held at the Columbus Hyatt on Capitol Square in early April, the symposium attracted a crowd of 100 data-processing executives, as well as educators and students.
New Technology Outpaces Usage
While computer technology develops at breakneck speed, use of new technology lags behind, according to computer officials. "The problem is not with development but with usage," Robert C. Hughes of Digital told the symposium audience.
Panelists at the symposium noted that advances in computer technology have little meaning unless businesses can use them and said improved communications between information systems technicians and business leaders would ameliorate the problem.
