CSB Changes to MIS

Dr. John C. Day, assistant professor of Management Information Systems, answers a question from Lyndie Lynaum. CSB is an unclear acronym for one of the College of Business Administration's most popular majors. Faculty members and students alike experience a difficult time explaining to the business world and peers at other universities exactly what Computer Systems in Business means.
In an effort to rectify the situation, the name of the major has been changed to Management Information Systems (MIS).
"Name recognition is the reason for the change. People know what MIS means," says Dr. John C. Day, assistant professor of Management Information Systems.
Other program changes are occurring. Beginning fall quarter, two subject tracks will be offered. Currently included in the track is training in data processing, programming, systems analysis and database management.
The new track will focus on end--user computing, local area networks, PC applications, database and expert systems courses.
The number of faculty members teaching in the program has grown from six in 1984 to ten in 1988.
