Management Information Systems Department - News and Articles - Oracle added to MIS Curriculum

Oracle added to MIS Curriculum

Starting in the Fall quarter of 1998, the MIS department began using Oracle 7 as the core database management system in the MIS380 Database I course. This replaces Cincom's SUPRA database that was previously used in the curriculum. In addtion to using the Oracle 7 Server, the MIS380 course will also use the Oracle Developer 2000 Forms Designer and Report Designer client applications to access data stored on the Oracle 7 Server.
Eventually the department will replace Oracle 7 with the Oracle 8 Server to enable students to create applications that access the database through the internet. This will occur once Oracle releases version 8 under its educational licensing program.
